The Invest in Child Safety Act (reintroduced for 2021) would contribute a record $5 billion towards the prevention of child sexual abuse, and the apprehension of those who perpetrate it, and the removal of images of that abuse. The law deserves our support.
But it’s not perfect—it could use an even stronger focus on prevention. Why? Because child sexual abuse doesn’t only deserve our attention after a child has already suffered. The more that we can do to prevent abuse from happening in the first place, the more children we can save from harm.
Write to your representatives in the House and Senate to tell them that you support the law—but that you would like to see amendments passed to give it an even stronger prevention focus, and to ensure that the funding it provides won’t be misallocated towards a war against porn and sex work.
