Prostasia Foundation Welcomes New Executive Director to Lead Innovative Child Protection Efforts

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Prostasia Foundation announces the appointment of Dr. Gilian Tenbergen (she/her) as the organization's new Executive Director. Prostasia Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to preventing child sexual abuse through evidence-based interventions that prioritize human rights for all. With Dr. Tenbergen’s appointment, Prostasia looks forward to providing resources, education, and outreach today to build a better future for children everywhere. 

Dr. Tenbergen is an expert and scholar in sexual violence prevention. In her academic work she has published widely on matters related to the origins of sexual violence and how it can be applied to prevention initiatives. She holds a BA with Honors in Psychology from SUNY Oswego and a Master of Science in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience with a specialization in Psychopathology from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. She completed her doctoral thesis at the Hannover Medical School, where she collaborated with the Prevention Project Dunkelfeld.

Prostasia Foundation’s work includes funding research into child sexual abuse prevention, defending LGBTQ+ and other marginalized communities whose rights are threatened by misinformation about child safety, and educating the public with facts about CSA. The organization also provides resources for individuals looking for help with thoughts of offending, including through its partnership with the MAP Support Club, a promising prevention intervention currently being evaluated for its effectiveness by university researchers. 

Dr. Tenbergen’s appointment as Executive Director facilitates a new chapter in the operation, research, and initiatives of Prostasia Foundation. The foundation will officially announce the appointment of Dr. Tenbergen on May 25th.
